Izmir subcutaneous implant is a hormonal Izmir birth control method. In this method, a stick the size of a matchstick placed under the skin on the arm secretes the hormone progesterone at regular intervals throughout the day, thus preventing pregnancy. It provides a three-year protection. The procedure is performed with local anesthesia. The advantages of the implant are that it is easy to use, does not need to be remembered, can be used by lactating women, and is a method with high efficacy and longevity. Disadvantages are that it causes menstrual irregularity and cessation of menstrual bleeding in some women (it is not suitable for women who cannot tolerate the cessation of menstruation because it cannot be predicted what kind of change will occur in which woman), and removal with a surgical procedure.
