Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

İzmir Polycystic ovary syndrome is a gynecological disease and endocrine disorder that negatively affects fertility in women of reproductive age and causes many problems such as menstrual irregularity, hair growth, and weight gain. Polycystic ovary, which develops in the form of the formation of many small and benign cysts in the ovaries, is a female disease that manifests itself with menstrual regularity, in addition to that, it causes the formation of many complaints such as weight gain, hair growth throughout the body, and acne formation. Due to these cysts, the ovulation pattern is disrupted and the problem of not having children occurs in women with this disease. The initiating factor or factors are not yet fully known. It is considered as a disease that has emerged with the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Polycystic ovary syndrome, which is more common in women who gain excess weight, paves the way for diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and uterine cancer in women.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Symptoms
This syndrome, which usually starts in adolescence, develops due to the malfunctioning of the hormonal system that is activated in adolescence. With the increase in obesity, the incidence of this disease is also increasing. Because the excess secretion of insulin hormone negatively affects the ovaries and hormonal system, paving the way for the development of polycystic ovary syndrome.

  • Infertility
  • Irregular period
  • increased hair growth
  • Increased risk of diabetes in women with increased insulin levels
  • depression and anxiety
  • Sleep apnea
  • weight gain

These symptoms are the most common symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome and the most common symptom is menstrual irregularity.

Causes of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
The exact cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is not known. It is known that genetic and environmental factors are effective in its emergence. Individuals with a family history of polycystic ovary are more likely to develop this disease than other individuals. Polycystic ovary symptoms are triggered by imbalances in the hormones that control the menstrual cycle. The main androgen male hormone; is testosterone. This hormone is produced by the ovaries in all women and is converted to estrogen, the main female hormone. In women with polycystic ovary syndrome, testosterone is produced in excess of normal. If androgen levels are above normal; It causes acne, hair growth, weight gain and ovulation problems.

Another cause of this disease is exposure to some harmful chemicals. Some pesticides, dioxins, phytoestrogens, some chemicals such as BPA, Bisphenol A, DBP cause the hormonal balance to deteriorate by affecting the hormone production process in the body.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Treatment Methods
There is no definite treatment method for this disease. The first step in treatment; It is to stay at the ideal weight with a healthy diet and exercise. It is observed that many women with polycystic ovary syndrome are overweight or obese. Avoiding processed foods, foods with added sugar, and consuming grain products, fruits, vegetables and lean meats help keep blood sugar low, regulate insulin use and hormone levels.
