Things to Know About Coronavirus and Pregnancy!

Respiratory tract infections during pregnancy are severe due to the physiology of pregnancy itself. However, this was not the case in pregnant women with coronovirus. Although the number of cases is not enough to speak for sure, it shows that there is no transmission from mother to baby, in the womb or at the time of birth, as no coronovirus has been detected in any of the babies born so far. Likewise, no virus was detected in breast milk. These results currently cover the late weeks of pregnancy, we do not yet know whether there will be a transmission if it is transmitted in the early weeks of pregnancy. But we will know when these pregnant women give birth. There is no clear recommendation on the mode of delivery. In the series, deliveries were mostly made by cesarean section. There is no evidence that vaginal secretion poses a risk of transmission to the baby. Epidural or spinal anesthesia should be preferred for anesthesia, general anesthesia is generally recommended to be avoided. Delayed clamping of the postpartum cord is recommended. All babies should be tested for the virus. Some reports from China recommended that those with confirmed coronavirus stay away from their babies for 14 days. Some precautions are recommended in case of breastfeeding. Hands must be washed before touching your baby, bottles or pumps.

- When feeding the baby at the breast, a face mask should be worn.
-Recommendations for cleaning the pumps after each use should be followed.

Things to do to protect pregnant women from coronovirus!
Hands should be washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, alcohol-based hand sanitizer should be used. When coughing or sneezing, the nose and mouth should be covered with a disposable tissue paper, and if there is no tissue paper, it should be used inside the elbow. Due to the high number of patients, health centers should not be visited if possible, and contact should be minimized if the health center is visited. People who are not sick do not need to wear masks.
